On Monday, November 3, 2008, LCRF hosted a scientific luncheon and lecture hosted at the Mandarin Oriental hotel to raise critical funds for research. To mark the occasion, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaimed November in the city of New York as Lung Cancer Awareness Month. We were privileged to have Dr. James R. Dr. Rigas' presentation, "The Global Treatment of Lung Cancer: A Historical View" focused upon the progress made in clinical lung cancer research since 1948 highlighting the advent of chemotherapy to fostering an understanding of today's biologic targeted therapy. He commented that the era of biologic targeted therapy holds promise to achieve not small incremental advances, but significant improvements in survival for lung cancer patients. He encouraged continued collaboration between the scientific and philanthropic communities to explore these opportunities. A record 240 guests attended the luncheon and we are pleased to announce that the event raised over $275,000 in support of lung cancer research and educational programs throughout the country.
