About Our Grants


LCRF grants are awarded for projects focused on one or more of the following areas of lung cancer research:

  • Basic science
  • Translational research
  • Clinical research
  • Supportive care
  • Quality of care/outcomes

LCRF provides funds to US-based and international investigators including:

  • Junior investigators (e.g. graduate students, medical students, post-doctoral fellows)
  • Senior faculty (e.g. assistant/associate/full professors)
  • Physicians
  • Nurse researchers


Grant Terms

  • The maximum award is $75,000 for one year from the time of notification.
  • The LCRF grant must be the primary source of support for the project (additional secondary funding such as core services support is permitted).
  • All applicable costs including institutional indirect/overhead costs must be included as part of the requested budget total.
  • Personnel budget lines must not account for more than 15% of the total request.
  • Direct patient care costs that could be reimbursed by other sources will not be covered.
  • Any extensions beyond the 12-month grant period require resubmission as new applications for competitive consideration.

Application Requirements

  • The project summary may not exceed 15 pages total (including CV/biosketch).
  • The application must include at least one letter of support. The letter should be from the applicant’s program director/advisor and affirm the following statements:
    1. The applicant will be affiliated with the institution/organization during the grant period.
    2. There is adequate institutional space and equipment to accomplish the stated project.
    3. The program director/advisor will confirms his/her commitment to and provision of institutional space and equipment for the grantee.
  • Reapplications must include a complete progress report of the current grant reward.

Due to the high volume of grant submissions, LCRF cannot provide feedback on applications that do not receive a grant award.
