Director, Signature Events

Reports to: Senior Director, Philanthropy
Location: NYC tri-state preferred (primarily remote)

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) is a non-profit organization focused on funding groundbreaking research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. To date, LCRF has provided nearly $43M for lung cancer research in the U.S. and around the world.

The Director, Signature Events is responsible for directional leadership and intentional management of LCRF’s signature events with a primary focus on the strategic revenue growth and pipeline development for LCRF’s major gift program. The position will partner closely with Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and high-level volunteers to identify and secure funding opportunities.

Scope and Responsibilities

Strategic Development:

  • Lead the strategy, development, oversight and evaluation of LCRF’s signature events geared toward expanding LCRF’s pipeline of donors and supporters + driving revenue across the nation
  • Partner with Senior Leadership Team to ensure signature event priorities are aligned with the organizational strategic plans and annual goals

Development + Volunteer Management

  • Leading role: Lead and oversee all aspects of LCRF’s signature events including Evening of Innovation gala, Elliot’s Legacy, and donor/supporter education + cultivation events
  • Volunteer management: Recruit, develop, manage, and grow high-profile volunteers and committee(s) that will drive significant growth in LCRF’s signature events, including gala chair(s) and honoree(s) 
  • Relationship management:  Identify, cultivate, steward and manage a portfolio of relationships with donors, volunteers, supporters, and prospects to build affinity, empower and activate constituents in moving LCRF’s mission forward
  • Gift procurement: Identify, secure, and retain major donors and sponsors; carry a robust portfolio, develop custom moves management strategies to increase giving and support
  • Pipeline development + cultivation:  Recruit, partner with, coach and manage key stakeholders to host cultivation events that will produce opportunities for donor pipeline development
  • Storytelling:  Partner with volunteers to write and tell lung cancer stories in a meaningful and compelling way that will inspire and motivate audiences to further support LCRF’s mission.
  • Lung cancer knowledge: Maintain an up-to-date, working knowledge of key lung cancer-related topics
  • Event + vendor management:  Guarantee exceptional experience at all events by ensuring event details, plans, and sponsor deliverables are developed, executed, communicated appropriately and within budget; partner with and manage event production company for large scale events
  • Financial management: Prepare, track, measure, and analyze data and reports to ensure development goals, benchmarks, and budgets are achieved

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, engage and activate constituents across LCRF’s programmatic and development opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and recruit prospects for peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives

Requirements

  • A dynamic, driven and sophisticated professional excited by the opportunity to help grow and shape the future of the Lung Cancer Research Foundation
  • Proven success in fund development and executing on goals as well as experience leading and partnering with volunteers to achieve desired outcomes
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative and can balance big picture strategy and execution against plans
  • Must have good judgement, can learn on the fly, and have a can-do attitude
  • Outstanding, articulate and persuasive communication skills, with well-honed relationship building skills and excellent public speaking and presentation abilities
  • Values a collaborative environment, enjoys working with a team, and appreciates making connections
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of experience in development and events, including experience securing major gifts and sponsorships of $10k+
  • Experience with RaisersEdge NXT is required
  • CFRE preferred
  • Ability to travel for meetings and events (up to 25%)
