Event Information

Where does the money go?
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation’s Free to Breathe Events Program funds research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. LCRF has funded 364 grants, totaling over $33 million – the largest amount of funding provided by any lung cancer research organization to date.

Do I need to form/join a team in order to participate?
You don’t need to form or join a team in order to participate, but we do think it makes the day more fun! If participating on a team isn’t for you, you may choose “register as an individual” on the event’s main page to participate without a team.

What if it rains?
The is a rain or shine event! However, if the weather becomes dangerous to event participants, we reserve the right to delay or cancel the event.

What if the event is cancelled?
In the case of a cancelled event, a shirt pick-up and donation collection date will be scheduled within one month of the event date. The date and location will be sent to registrants who are opted in to receive email from the Free to Breathe Events Program. LCRF will also post this information on Facebook. Any registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, and cancelled events will not be re-scheduled.

What’s the easiest and most effective way to raise funds?

How do I find out if my company has a matching gift program?
It’s easy to find out if your company will match your gift! Go to lcrf.org/matchinggifts and use our simple online tool. If your company isn’t listed, use the opportunity to ask management if they would consider starting a matching gift program.

What should I do with cash/check donations?
The quickest way to credit cash donations to your page is to keep the cash and make a credit card donation to your page, entering the donor’s information for acknowledgement purposes. Alternately, you may write a check to cover the amount of your cash donations, and keep the cash. Fill out the deposit slip at this link and send it with your checks payable to Lung Cancer Research Foundation, Free to Breathe Events Program, 1 Point Place, Suite 200, Madison, WI 53719. You may also bring donations to registration on event day.

How do I change my goal?
First, log into the Fundraising Center. Toward the top of the page, you’ll see your progress and your goal. You can change your goal by clicking the “change” link next to the words “My Goal.”

What is a personal page?
Your personal page contains your donation link, team page link (if you’re on a team), a photo, and a few paragraphs about why you are participating. We encourage you to replace the photo and text with your own! Telling your own story is the most compelling way to gain support.
