What is Free to Breathe Your Way fundraising?
Your Way fundraising is an opportunity to turn anything into a fundraiser: golfing, bowling, baking, music, yoga and even parties! You have the power to save lives by doing what you love! You get to be creative and flexible as you want by bringing LCRF to your community.
How do I start?
You can start by creating a fundraising page at LINK or reaching out to us directly to help you get started at events@LCRF.org! Emma is here to be your biggest cheerleader and support you.
What are some fundraising ideas?
Check out our Tips & Tools for ideas and how-to guides for some tried & true fundraisers! We love cornhole tournaments, paint & sip events, trivia nights, lemonade stands, golf outings, family picnics and more! The options are endless and we love to brainstorm with you.
Where do the funds raised go?
Funds raised through the Free to Breathe Your Way campaign go towards LCRF’s mission to improve lung cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. LCRF is committed to lengthening and improving the quality of life for patients with lung cancer through advancing the best new research in the field.

Free to Breathe Your Way rules and guidelines
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) is extremely grateful to the many people and organizations who host events to support our mission to improve lung cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of lung cancer. We recognize the great amount of hard work you will assume on behalf of this cause and want your event to be a success. Please carefully review the following guidelines, which have been designed for the protection of the fundraiser and LCRF.
Please note that LCRF has a duty to ensure that all funds are being handled in a manner that is consistent with LCRF’s mission and responsibilities to our donors. Fundraising events must comply with all relevant local, state, and federal laws.

Support provided by LCRF
- Approval of LCRF name, logo, and images for your use.
- Printed education and awareness materials about lung cancer for distribution to participants.
- Selected decorations such as balloons, yard signs and giveaway items (subject to availability).
- Tax receipts and acknowledgements for contributions made payable and submitted to LCRF.
- Guidance on marketing and promotion, including minor assistance producing flyers or graphics upon request.
- Advice and suggestions during the planning process. We love to help set you up for success!
Marketing and promotion guidelines
- Third-party events may not be represented as sponsored by Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
- Promotions for the event should reflect LCRF as the beneficiary and should state the exact donation structure on marketing materials (i.e. “$15 from every ticket sold will be donated to Lung Cancer Research Foundation”)
- As an event organizer, you are welcome to contact local media regarding your fundraiser and post to our social media pages. We cannot distribute any press releases for your fundraiser or solicit media coverage on your behalf. We are happy to provide guidance.
- LCRF can not provide mailing lists for donors, volunteers, or sponsors for fundraising purposes.
- If appropriate, LCRF may promote your event via LCRF website and social media.
Financial guidelines
Event expenses:
- LCRF will not incur third-party expenses or provide any funds for third-party events or promotions. Expenses incurred for conducting the event are the responsibility of the hosting volunteers and organizer of the event.
- Examples: food & beverage, permits, insurance, venue rentals, and so on.
- Event costs should be deducted from the funds prior to sending the donation to LCRF.
- LCRF’s sales tax exemption (on purchases) cannot be extended to any event or fundraising effort.
- No bank accounts or holding accounts may be established under the LCRF name.
Event Income:
- Event organizers are responsible for maintaining accounting for the event.
- Unless your organization is a registered non-profit entity, donations made to it are not tax-deductible.
- Donations made directly to a third-party event can be used to cover the event’s expenses, but are not tax-deductible.
- Only checks payable to Lung Cancer Research Foundation clearly labeled with donors information, will be provided with a tax deductible acknowledgement letter in accordance with IRS and State Tax Regulations. LCRF will not redistribute those donations to cover third-party event expenses.
- Any online donations made directly to LCRF will be provided tax deductible acknowledgement letter as well.
- Within 30 days following the event, organizers should submit net funds, payable to Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
- Funds can be submitted online (credit card, Paypal, Google Pay, or bank transfer) or via check to:
