A haunted house in a suburb of Buffalo, NY raised $4,250 for lung cancer research in memory of Kathleen Mecca, who passed away in January after being diagnosed just two months earlier.

The Mecca family first decorated their backyard in Kenmore, NY as a haunted house in 2009 and dubbed it “Darkorners.” Every year for the next four years, the Mecca family brought back the attraction and donated proceeds to a variety of charities.

After a seven-year hiatus, the Meccas knew it was time to bring Darkorners back.

“We felt it was necessary to return to honor her memory and one of her favorite traditions, and bring back Darkorners for her and lung cancer research,” said Kathleen’s son, Kyle.
