Manager, Community Engagement (Patient Education + Support)

Reports to: Director, Educational Programs
Location: Remote

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation’s (LCRF) Community Engagement team works to support those impacted by lung cancer, foster community and connection, and inspire action that will advance research and improve lung cancer outcomes. Additionally, the Education Program plays an integral and strategic role in the organization’s overall success, as it often serves as a conduit for bringing patients and caregivers into our network, and building their affinity for supporting our mission. The Manager, Community Engagement (Education) directly supports the outreach and engagement of the lung cancer community and provides critical services to patients and caregivers via the LCRF Support Line. This role reports to the Director, Educational Programs.

Essential job responsibilities

Strategic Development

  • In partnership with Director, Education Programs and Community Engagement team, develop a strategic approach to LCRF’s Patient Programs including growth strategies, relationship management, data management, and needs assessments. 
  • Develop and execute organization-wide plans to build LCRF’s pipeline of volunteers, donors and fundraisers through intentional outreach to lung cancer households.

Program Management

  • Support Programs: Develop and implement project plans to ensure successful delivery of LCRF’s Support Programs, including but not limited to Support Line and Together Separately community group.
  • Support: provide exceptional support to lung cancer households and providers and ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate resources are provided.
  • Lung Cancer Knowledge: Maintain an up-to-date, working knowledge of key lung cancer-related topics and trends, and the impact they could have on patient outcomes.
  • Financial Management: Partner with Director, Educational Programs to track, measure, and analyze program metrics and financials, and support strategic direction to ensure program goals are achieved.
  • Data Entry: Ensure timely and accurate keeping of constituent records; partner with Director, Database to improve data collection and reporting processes related to LCRF’s Support Programs.

Engagement + Fundraising

  • Pipeline Development: Proactively communicate with lung cancer households and collaborate with cross-functional teams to engage patients/caregivers/providers in educational offerings, and other campaigns/initiatives to strengthen engagement.
  • Relationship Management: Manage, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of relationships with volunteers, fundraisers, supporters, and prospects to build affinity, empower and activate constituents in moving LCRF’s mission forward.
  • Program Funding: Partner with Director, Educational Programs to manage relationships with funding  partners, primarily as it relates to their support of LCRF’s patient education programs; track revenue, support grant submissions, communicate impact to donors, ensure appropriate execution of benefits.
  • Online Communities: Manage and oversee LCRF’s online patient/caregiver and memorial communities, including collaboration on engaging group content, interacting with group members, and providing appropriate educational support.
  • Speaking Engagements: Lead the coordination of patient/caregiver involvement in speaking engagements and storytelling for partners across LCRF platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in nonprofit or other social services role (advanced degree in related field preferred).
  • Verbal and written Spanish fluency preferred but not required.
  • A dynamic, driven and sophisticated professional excited by the opportunity to help grow and shape the future of the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
  • Proven success in relationship development and constituent engagement.
  • The ability to communicate in a compassionate and empathetic way, particularly when working with a vulnerable patient/caregiver population.
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative, while also valuing a collaborative environment, enjoys working with a team, and is energized by the opportunity to make connections.
  • Proven success in planning, leading, and managing community events.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word); Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus but not required (some experience in any CRM preferred).
  • Ability to travel for meetings and events (up to 20%).

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

This job will be performed in an office environment, primarily sitting at a desk and using a computer and phone. In order to perform the essential functions of the job, the employee must be able to walk, bend, occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds, operate a computer and other office equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Occasional travel will be required.
